CPL UK are currently assisting a large private hospital group who are recruiting for a permanent Consultant Anaesthetist to join their team in Hampshire.
Location: Southampton
Staff Management Responsibility: No direct line management responsibilities.
Budgetary Responsibility: No direct budgetary responsibilities.
Grade: Consultant
JOB SUMMARY
The Hospital functions 7 days a week with weekends an integral part of the planned operating activity and the rota. The working pattern is divided into 9 x 5 hour sessions per week:
- 7 Clinical – the Job Plan for this post includes Saturday sessions a minimum of 2 weeks a month
- 1 Supporting Programmed Activity (SPA)
- 1 as a compensation for the On Call commitment
Post holders will be expected to provide cross-cover for colleagues during periods of absence, including for example annual leave and study leave.
Surgical Specialties
The postholder will be required to provide anaesthetic services to support elective orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, ENT, oral surgery, ophthalmology, gynaecology, pain services and endoscopy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- To carry out necessary duties to ensure the best and most cost-effective treatment of patients.
- Comply with the work schedule developed by the Hospital Director.
- To provide a full range of specialist diagnosis, treatment and care to inpatients, day cases and outpatients who require anaesthetic services and ensure anaesthetic care which is responsive to patient needs and to changes in workload.
- To undertake pre and post operative assessment of patients.
- To provide first line senior medical support to the Resident Doctors (RDs), both within normal working hours and as part of the on-call rota.
- To undertake all necessary administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients.
- To participate in the Hospital’s audit and clinical governance programme.
- To contribute to the development of Clinical Quality Standards.
- To be responsible to the Medical Director for the quality of care delivered and the effective and efficient use of the resources under his/her control.
- To contribute to the planning and development of anaesthetic services.
- To contribute to the Hospital meetings.
- To contribute to the teaching of Hospital staff.
In-Service Education
To participate in the in-service education programme, inclusive of mandatory annual training such as CPR, Health & Safety Training and Fire.
Professional Responsibilities
- To ensure ongoing medical competence by participating in the annual revalidation and reaccreditation schemes of the GMC and the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
- To maintain a Portfolio of Professional Practice.
- To participate in the annual Clinical Appraisal system with the Medical Director.
- To promote the Hospital by demonstrating a customer-focused approach at all times to patients, consultants and staff.
Job Plan and Hours of Work
The postholder will be expected to be flexible enough to accommodate required attendance at essential meetings and be prepared to travel to other sites as requested for clinical or other professional meetings.
Medical Insurance
The postholder will be indemnified by the Group for all NHS work undertaken as part of the postholder’s contract of employment in accordance with CNST.
Remuneration
Salaries are expected to be approximately £140,000 per annum for full time postholders. There will be an annual leave entitlement of 25 days plus 8 UK Bank Holidays and up to 10 days study leave by prior agreement with the Hospital Director & Medical Director. Part-time appointments will be on a pro-rata basis.
Location
The candidate will be expected to have easy access to the hospital and be resident within a 30 mile radius of the Hospital or 60 minutes travelling time.
