Location: Southmead Hospital, Bristol

Activity / Volume:

  • General Dermatology: 4 clinics per week
  • Urgent Skin Cancer Referrals: 4 clinics per week

Service Overview:

  • Local and regional dermatology service covering Bristol and South Gloucestershire populations
  • Specialist services include Mohs micrographic surgery, Laser, Biologics for Eczema, Vulval dermatology, and Psychodermatology
  • Team includes 6 Consultant Dermatologists, 1 Specialty Doctor, 2 specialist nurses, and 6 resident doctors

Department Overview:

  • Part of the Surgical Directorate, managed alongside Plastic Surgery to improve skin cancer pathways
  • Outpatient facilities at Brunel Building, Southmead Hospital, including theatres, procedure rooms, and Mohs laboratory
  • Clinics also run at Cossham Hospital, Kingswood
  • Flexible working including evening clinics and teledermatology services

Role Responsibilities:

  • General dermatology clinics
  • Skin cancer clinics and surgery
  • Acute ward referrals
  • Advice & Guidance referrals (tele-dermatology) and photo clinics
  • Remote and face-to-face general and suspected cancer dermatology
  • Biologic clinic for Eczema
  • Complex patient clinic (commissioned by UHBW)
  • Nurse-led drug monitoring and inflammatory disease clinics
  • Specialist skin cancer multidisciplinary meetings
  • Supervision of Dermatology trainees / cancer CNS
  • Undergraduate teaching

Collaborations:

  • Close links with Dermatology Centre at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW)
  • Referral pathway for complex biologics and patch testing
