We have a fantastic opportunity for a Family Solicitor to join our growing business, open to discussing office-based work at either Huddersfield, Barnsley or Leeds.

Your Role:

The prime role of a solicitor within the family team would be to undertake fee earner work, promote the image and ethos of the firm, and adhere to agreed practice and procedure in relation to compliance and quality standards. Must be prepared to work across all four of our offices from time to time. It will also involve assisting the head of the family team in supervising more junior fee earners and conducting file review work. Opportunity for hybrid working. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Compliance with and awareness of all aspects of requirements imposed on a Solicitor by the Solicitors Act, Solicitors' Accounts Rules, Trustee Accounts Rules, and all other statutory and Law Society rules and regulations.
  • Day-to-day handling of a wide variety of cases including divorce, private children, non-molestation orders, and financial relief.
  • Running own case load under supervision and being able to pick up cases partway through.
  • Attending court on directions hearings, first appointments, and financial dispute resolution appointments.
  • Taking instructions from clients, drafting documents and letters, conducting matters on behalf of clients, and working as part of the team.
  • A commitment to the development of the business and marketing activities.
  • Preparing Legal Aid applications and liaising with the Legal Aid Agency as necessary.
  • Achieving agreed personal targets in respect of fee income and recording of chargeable time, and assisting in developing new opportunities and the range of services offered by the firm.
  • Supervision of members of staff and file reviews.
  • Assisting where required in marketing the firm's client services.
  • Being self-sufficient in terms of new work.

Person specification – key skills/qualifications required:

  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge and excellent client care skills.
  • Proficient in charging for services and knowledge of the eligibility criteria for legal aid, fully conversant with legal aid rules.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to deal with a broad range of clients and a willingness to provide the highest standard of client care.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and marketing skills with the ability to develop contacts for the firm.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines and have strong decision-making skills.
  • Experienced in advocacy.
  • Experience in private children, domestic abuse, divorce, and finances within divorce. Experience in TOLATA is advantageous.
  • Experienced in drafting.
  • Self-motivated.
  • To be a supervisor for the purposes of Legal Aid.
  • To be able to bring in own work.
