We have a fantastic opportunity for a Family Solicitor to join our growing business, open to discussing office based at either Huddersfield, Barnsley or Leeds.
Your Role:
The prime role of a solicitor within the family team would be to undertake fee earner work, to encourage and promote the image and ethos of the firm and to adhere to agreed practice and procedure as determined from time to time in relation to compliance and quality standards. Must be prepared to work across all four of our offices from time to time. It will also be to assist the head of the family team in supervising more junior fee earners, and doing file review work. Your responsibilities will include:
- To undertake compliance with and be fully aware of all aspects of requirements imposed on a Solicitor by the Solicitors Act, Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and Trustee Accounts Rules and all other statutory and Law Society rules and regulations from time to time enforced for the conduct of the business of a solicitor.
- Day to day handling of a wide variety of cases including divorce, private children, non-molestation orders and financial relief.
- Running own case load under supervision and being able to pick up cases part way through.
- Attend court on directions hearings, first appointments and financial dispute resolution appointments.
- Take instructions from clients, drafting documents and letters, conduct of matters on behalf of clients and work as part of the team.
- A commitment to the development of the business and marketing activities.
- Prepare Legal Aid applications and liaise with the Legal Aid Agency, as necessary.
- To achieve agreed personal targets in respect of fee income and recording of chargeable time and to assist in developing new opportunities and the range of services offered by the firm.
- Day-to-day handling of a wide variety of cases.
- Experience of running own case load and being able to pick up cases partway through.
- Conduct of matters on behalf of clients.
- Supervision of members of staff and file reviews.
- Work as part of the team.
- To assist where required in marketing the firm’s client services.
- Must be prepared to travel to all of our offices, as and when required.
- To be prepared to supervise team members and to do file supervisions.
- To be self-sufficient in terms of new work.
Person specification – key skills/qualifications required:
- Demonstrate a high level of knowledge and excellent client care skills.
- Proficient in charging for services and knowledge of the eligibility criteria for legal aid and fully conversant with legal aid rules.
- Good written and verbal communication to deal with a broad range of clients and the willingness to provide the highest standard of client care.
- Outstanding interpersonal and marketing skills with the ability to develop contacts for the firm.
- Ability to work within a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines and have strong decision-making skills.
- Experienced in advocacy.
- Works in private children, domestic abuse, divorce and finances within divorce. Experience in TOLATA is advantageous.
- Experienced in drafting.
- Able to be self-motivated.
- To be a supervisor for the purposes of Legal Aid.
- To be able to bring in own work.
