Our client, a state-of-the-art manufacturing business, based in rural North Yorkshire, is seeking a proactive Management Accountant to join their finance team. This role is wide-ranging, in a small finance team, which will support the business by producing accurate management information, analysing operational performance, and providing financial insight to help improve profitability, cost control, and decision-making across the organisation.
The successful candidate will work closely with production, operations, purchasing, and senior management to provide clear financial analysis, support budgeting and forecasting, and ensure robust month-end reporting processes.
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, including profit and loss reports, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and journals.
- Produce clear commentary on key financial results, trends, risks, opportunities, and variances against budget and forecast.
- Monitor capital expenditure, fixed asset registers, depreciation, and investment project costs.
- Assist with annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and scenario planning.
- Complete daily reconciliation of bank accounts.
- Produce monthly VAT returns and submit via online software platform.
- Provide support to Project Accountant with analysis of manufacturing performance, including labour, material, overhead, cost of sales, scrap, stock, WIP, and production variances.
- Assist the Project Accountant in developing enhanced operational reporting to track performance, support business growth, and monitor progress against KPI targets.
- Provide support to Project Accountant with stock control processes, stock reconciliations, inventory valuation, and stocktake reporting.
- Assist with statutory audit preparation and provide information to external advisers where required.
- Contribute to improvements in systems, reporting tools, and finance processes.
- Provide finance cover for other areas within the team as and when required.
Qualifications:
- Qualified (CIMA/ACCA/ACA/AAT), part-qualified, or actively studying towards accounting qualification.
- Previous experience in a management accounting role in a small business is desirable.
- Strong understanding of month-end processes, variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills (V Lookups & Pivot Tables) and confidence working with large data sets.
- Experience using ERP or manufacturing systems is desirable, however full training will be provided.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
