The Role
We are looking for an Installation Engineer to take ownership of the full lifecycle of our advanced machinery—from in-house pre-commissioning and testing through to global installation, training, and after-sales support. You will be the technical expert our customers rely on, ensuring our machines perform to specification and delivering world-class service from factory floor to customer site. This is a varied, hands-on role where you will spend around 75% of your time at our Leicester facility and 25% travelling internationally to commission machinery and train customer teams around the world.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Installation & Commissioning: Pre-commission and test equipment in-house to meet customer contract requirements; Install and commission machines at customer premises worldwide; Train customer personnel on machine operation and maintenance; Carry out industrial electrical wiring, control software installation and updates; Handle mechanical engineering tasks including pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical fitting; Plan and coordinate international travel arrangements; Dismantle and prepare finished machines for shipping.
- Inspection & Testing: Conduct quality assurance checks on sub-assemblies, complete machines, and production lines; Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with customers; Prepare inspection documentation, test plans, test reports, and manuals; Test machines to ensure compliance with customer specifications; Develop and test new machinery; Deliver customer demonstrations and product trials.
- Post-Installation Support: Provide after-sales and warranty support to customers; Monitor and respond to customer queries and technical issues; Log and resolve breakdowns and outstanding issues; Ensure all job activity checklists are kept up to date; Maintain strong customer relationships and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaboration & Safety: Work closely with Engineering, Production, and Sales teams to ensure quality and compliance; Input into risk assessments, Technical Construction Files, and operation manuals; Ensure all work complies with CE standards, health & safety legislation, and ISO procedures; Prepare health and safety documentation and ensure appropriate PPE is used; Provide internal training to support team development.
Requirements
Essential: ONC/HNC or degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience; Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems; Experience with PLC-based software systems and diagnostics; Sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles; Experience of installation, training, and providing technical support; Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think on your feet; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised; Experience with quality documentation and procedures (ideally ISO standards); Good understanding of health & safety management; Ability to travel internationally on a frequent basis; Full driving licence and valid passport.
Desirable: Previous overseas travel experience; Product knowledge or background in similar industry; Commercial awareness and customer liaison experience; Proven track record of working under pressure to deliver quality work at pace.
