Health & Safety Officer – Groundworks & RC Frame Contractor

London & Hertfordshire (site-based)

1 day per week in office | Van + Fuel Card Provided

£85,000 salary OR £370/day (Ltd Co / Self-Employed)

Ridgeway & Co are working in partnership with a well-established Groundworks & RC Frame contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Officer to support their growing project portfolio.

This is a predominantly site-based role, overseeing multiple live projects across London and Hertfordshire, with occasional travel (1–2 times per month) to a South West project. You will spend one day per week in the office, working closely with senior management and delivery teams to drive consistent H&S standards across the business.

This role would suit someone hands-on, commercially aware, and confident operating autonomously across fast-paced construction sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and compliance checks
  • Prepare and maintain project-specific H&S plans, RAMS, and procedures
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and workforce briefings
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses, producing clear reports and recommendations
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and external bodies including HSE where required
  • Maintain training records and advise on competency gaps across the workforce
Requirements
  • NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum
  • Proven experience within groundworks and RC frame construction
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK construction H&S legislation
  • Comfortable managing H&S across multiple live sites independently
  • Full UK Driving Licence
