Ridgeway & Co are working with an established and reputable building contractor based in Hertfordshire, who are looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to join their growing commercial team. This contractor delivers a wide range of projects across residential, commercial, public sector, and insurance works, including new build, refurbishment, and planned/reactive maintenance schemes throughout London and the South East.
The Role
You will play a key role in the tendering and pre-construction process, preparing accurate and competitive pricing for construction projects and collaborating closely with internal departments to support successful bid submissions and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate and detailed cost estimates for a range of construction projects
- Conduct take-offs from drawings, specifications, and site visits
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
- Prepare tender documentation and assist in bid presentations
- Support directors and quantity surveyors throughout the pre-construction phase
- Track tenders, maintain pricing databases, and support value engineering
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a construction Estimator (main contractor or subcontractor)
- Strong knowledge of JCT contracts and traditional procurement methods
- Ability to work on projects from £100k to £5m+
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; estimating software experience is advantageous
- Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail
- Effective communicator with good time management and organisation
