We have an opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our cost management team.

You will become part of our dynamic and collaborative team working together to achieve team success and be encouraged and supported to progress your career within the Winchester office cost management discipline.

As a discipline we deliver significant projects ranging from £1m to over £60m across a wide variety of sectors, namely Education, Residential, specifically PBSA's, however this opportunity will see immediate involvement with a long standing Local Government Client and Charity Client.

  • What you need to do to be effective in this role
  • Assist on all aspects of cost management from inception to completion
  • Assist on large scale and/or multiple projects with key clients
  • Contribute to business development activities
  • Supporting Clients and other stakeholders in their decision making;
  • Working with digital tools for quantitative outtake and cost estimating;
  • Produce high level feasibility studies, cost estimates, cost plans throughout all stages of the design stage
  • Evaluate the cost of building designs and alternative proposals to maintain project budgets
  • Prepare and issue tender documents
  • Manage the tender process, review and analyse tender returns and prepare recommendations to the client as well as advice on procurement routes
  • Attend meetings, prepare financial reports and monitor on the status of projects
  • Provide robust post contract cost control measures, establishing the effect of variations and evaluating and negotiating final account settlements
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients and consultants
  • Maintain the highest standards of professional competence
  • The skills and experience you need to have for this role
  • Relevant degree in a quantity surveying, or similar, RICS accredited course.
  • Working towards MRICS preferred but not essential;
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Understanding of construction methodologies and building elements
  • Articulate, capable of establishing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Commercially aware with excellent negotiation and organisational skills.
  • Sound knowledge of JCT & NEC Suite of Contracts;
  • Critical thinking; be able to analyse project costs, contracts, and risks objectively to make informed decisions.
  • Keep up with changes in construction laws, new software, and cost estimation techniques
  • Adaptability; able to adjust to changes in project scope, economic conditions, or new client requirements;
  • Self-motivated and willing to take responsibility;
  • Ability to lead a team work to tight deadlines, staying organised, and managing workload efficiently
