Ridge is growing its Building Safety and Building Regulations capability in response to the Building Safety Act and wider regulatory change. We are looking for a Senior Building Safety Consultant to join our Birmingham-based team, working across complex projects in sectors including residential, commercial, healthcare, education and data centres.

This is a senior technical role for someone who enjoys working closely with design teams and embedding Building Regulations compliance into coordinated design. The role spans the project lifecycle, with particular emphasis on RIBA Stages 4–6.

  • Advising on Building Regulations and Building Safety Act duties
  • Supporting delivery of the Building Regulations Principal Designer role
  • Working with architectural, fire, structural and MEP teams to resolve compliance issues
  • Supporting gateway processes and regulatory submissions

This is an advisory, design‐led role, not Building Control or regulatory approval. This role is particularly suited to experienced Architectural Technologists, Design Managers, or technical design leads who are comfortable operating at RIBA Stage 4 onwards, leading technical coordination and managing compliance as part of live project delivery. Many candidates will have developed strong Building Regulations knowledge through hands‐on design experience rather than formal regulatory roles.

  • Practical knowledge of the Building Regulations
  • An understanding of how the Building Safety Act affects projects
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and apply sound judgement
  • Experience with higher‐risk buildings or BRPD delivery is beneficial but not essential.

You'll be supported by experienced colleagues, clear governance, and a culture that focuses on getting compliance right without unnecessary risk or over‐prescription.
