We have an opportunity for an ambitious Associate Structural Engineer to play a key role in delivering across our diverse portfolio of projects while taking a senior role in supporting running our team at our Reading office.

Working on our prestigious projects you will need to manage and be able to undertake all aspects of the engineering design and financial management of the projects. You would be responsible for leading projects from concept through to completion, guiding teams, shaping design strategies, and building trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders. You'll have the autonomy to influence technical direction, contribute to the strategic direction of the team all whilst being supported by a wider collaborative, forward thinking team. What you need to do to excel in this role:

  • Provide high-level technical oversight, mentor junior engineers, and review design work to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Prepare detailed structural calculations in accordance with Eurocodes and relevant design guidance, and oversee the production of drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Undertake structural surveys, diagnose issues, and provide clear advice on defects, remediation strategies, and potential risks.
  • Attend site during construction to monitor progress, address technical queries, and support contractors in delivering compliant solutions.
  • Support business development through bid preparation, proposal writing, and active client engagement.
  • Assist in negotiating fee proposals and securing additional fees where required.
  • Monitor project profitability, including planning, forecasting, and cost control taking responsibility for delivering work to agreed scopes, fees, and deadlines.

The skills and experience you need to have for this role:

  • Experience leading projects and managing client relationships.
  • Project experience throughout the stages of the RIBA plan of work.
  • Familiar and empathetic with all forms of building construction and a reliable designer in structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber.
  • Possess a good working knowledge of Software such as SCIA, Tekla and TEDDS or similar.
  • Experience of refurbishment and change of use designs as well as new build work.
  • Ideally Chartered professional status (MIStructE or MICE).
  • A relevant engineering qualification (BEng or equivalent).
  • Hold current UK driving licence.

  • Good people management skills.
  • Team player.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision but provide continual feedback.
  • Be personable, confident and a good communicator.
