We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Cost Manager wishing to progress their career in a supportive environment to join our cost management team. You will become part of our dynamic, proactive and collaborative team working together to achieve team success in the Cardiff office and across our business nationwide. You will work closely with senior team members supporting the delivery of a variety of projects, sectors, clients and significant projects.
What you need to do to be effective in this role:
- Assist with the day-to-day delivery of construction projects.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Prepare cost estimates and evaluate the cost of building designs and alternative proposals.
- Assist with the preparation, issue, evaluation, and reporting of tenders.
- Attend and actively participate in client and contractor meetings.
- Advise on contract terms and prepare building contract documentation.
- Agree on monthly valuations and prepare monthly cost reports.
- Value and agree on post-contract variations.
- Assist in the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
- Develop skills to provide a single point of contact, taking responsibility for all aspects of a project.
- Visit construction sites to gain a better understanding of construction technology and assess contractor applications for payment.
The skills and experience you need to have for this role:
- Relevant degree in quantity surveying, or similar, RICS-accredited course.
- Working towards MRICS status, or a desire to commence.
- Experience using Microsoft Office software, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Experience of relevant QS Software applications, CostX, Bluebeam or similar, is desirable.
- Good communication skills and experience in report writing.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Holder of a UK driving licence.
