As one of the largest teams of Chartered Surveyors in the property sector, incorporating 100+ surveyors across regional offices in the UK, the Building Surveying team in Cambridge continues to grow and now has a great opportunity for a new talented Building Surveyor. The Building Surveying team is accompanied by the established disciplines of Project Management and Building Services Engineering, which as a trusted partner of notable local clients already support the unique needs of local businesses with a tailored and personalised service.
This new role is for a Building Surveyor aspiring to become a Chartered Member of the RICS and provides an opportunity to be part of an ambitious team who continue to grow in line with the company’s growth strategy. The role will cover all aspects of professional and project related Building Surveying across a wide range of sectors including education, office, retail, industrial, and residential.
The role will cover the full spectrum of building surveying services including (but not limited to) schedules of condition, dilapidations representations, contract administration, defect diagnosis, pre-acquisition and technical due diligence surveys and reinstatement cost assessments. You will need to be personable, presentable and have good communication skills in this client facing role. An ability to produce your own documentation based on our standards is essential, as is an ability to organise and manage your time efficiently in the delivery of the services for multiple projects at any one time.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate they have a good knowledge and understanding of the necessary skills and abilities needed to perform specific tasks and have already recorded meaningful experience against their chosen competencies for the Building Surveying pathway. As part of the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), the Cambridge Building Surveying team will provide the candidate with structured training and act as supervisor and councillor to guide them through the APC process. In addition to this, the team recognise the importance of gaining exposure to a wide range of building surveying services for inclusion in the candidate’s record of experience. This will be the ideal place for a candidate to progress their career in the profession and become a Chartered Surveyor.
What you need to do to be effective in this role:
- Represent the company in a professional and diligent manner and help to promote Ridge and Partners by engaging with clients and attending networking events.
- Timeously deliver projects, commissions, and professional services having an appreciation for profitability, accounting principles and procedures.
- Have a key eye for detail and a pride in the quality of the required outputs.
- Ability to assess the importance and urgency of each task and regularly review and adjust your priorities as needed.
- Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Have an advanced knowledge of the APC process and what is required of you as a candidate.
- Are familiar with the Building Surveying pathway having achieved at least Level 1 in all mandatory competencies.
- Have a proficient knowledge and understanding of the core Building Surveying competencies (building pathology, construction technology, contract administration, design and specification, inspection, legal and regulatory compliance) and achieved at least Level 1 in all core competencies.
- Have the ability to recognise the limit of their experience and are confident to ask for help.
The skills and experience you need to have for this role:
- Relevant degree (RICS approved, 2:1 minimum).
- Experience in a Building Surveying role; post graduate experience is preferred.
- Registered on the RICS APC Building Surveying Pathway and working towards becoming Chartered.
- A full driving licence.
- Good IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, AutoCAD, NBS and other software).
