We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our experienced MEP team at Ridge and Partners LLP, resizing in Plymouth. As the demand for our expertise grows, you will bring solid experience in design and extensive technical knowledge of building services installations. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering projects across residential, healthcare, education, commercial, and other sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Represent Ridge MEP, leading project mechanical design and managing electrical engineers and specialists.
- Act as lead engineer in a design team, responsible for mechanical services design.
- Supervise and monitor the work of others in this function.
- Engage with clients to ensure stakeholder requirements are incorporated and develop strong client relationships.
- Complete mechanical QA project reviews to ensure technical requirements align with industry regulations, recommendations, and the client brief.
- Advise clients on energy use and conservation, aiming to minimise environmental impact and carbon emissions associated with our designs.
- Use specialist CAD and BIM (Revit) software and other resources to design required building systems.
- Conduct mechanical design calculations, ideally using Hevacomp and IES software.
- Produce reports, drawings, and specifications to suit various RIBA design stages.
- Collaborate closely with structural engineers, architects, surveyors, and contractors, both in-house and external.
- Attend a range of project group and technical meetings.
- Ensure that the design and maintenance of building systems meet legislative and health-and-safety requirements.
- Provide ongoing mentoring and management of junior engineers.
Skills and Experience:
- Significant experience and technical knowledge in a mechanical and building services design role, from a consultant or contractor background.
- Accredited degree or higher educational qualification in an applicable discipline (HNC/HND).
- Having achieved CEng status.
- Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a close-knit team toward shared goals.
- Attention to detail and a strong desire to deliver high standards of client care.
