Role Overview
Our Strategic Asset Advisory team supports RLB’s key national clients across large, diverse property portfolios. Operating within a hybrid national delivery model, the team collaborates closely with colleagues across our UK office network to deliver high‑quality, client‑focused professional services. We work across multiple sectors, including Commercial, Residential, Education, Sports, Justice, Defence, Retail and PFI, providing strategic asset advisory, technical advisory, lifecycle planning, and project delivery expertise. The Strategic Asset Manager will lead the development, optimisation, and delivery of client asset management strategies across complex and varied estates. Combining technical asset knowledge with commercial and strategic insight, the role supports our client’s decision making that not only ensures compliance, it enhances performance, improves lifecycle value, and drives organisational outcomes. You will work with multi‑disciplinary teams including building surveyors, project managers, cost consultants, fire consultants and digital specialists to develop long‑term investment plans, asset frameworks, data collection and strategies, as well as capital programmes aligned with client needs. Role Responsibilities
- Asset Management
- Develop and deliver asset management strategies, policies, roadmaps, and frameworks in line with ISO 55000 principles and other industry standards.
- Undertake asset condition surveys, lifecycle assessments, risk profiling, and criticality reviews.
- Undertake detailed QA of data sets, ensuring compliance with client needs and legislative or contractual requirements.
- Prepare strategic investment plans, prioritisation models, and long‑term capital programmes.
- Produce options appraisals, feasibility studies, business cases (e.g., HM Treasury Green Book), and cost–benefit analyses.
- Provide strategic advice to optimise asset performance, resilience, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
- Support clients in transitioning to proactive, data‑driven asset management approaches.
- Lead asset management workstreams across large national programmes and multi‑site portfolios.
- Manage multiple projects across “live” operational environments, ensuring minimal disruption.
- Prepare and manage key stage reports from feasibility through to delivery and post‑handover.
- Support procurement, commercial compliance, and contractual documentation.
- Take ownership of deliverables, ensuring on‑time, cost‑effective, and high‑quality outputs.
- Work closely with multi‑disciplinary teams, coordinating input from design, H&S, commercial, and digital specialists.
- Define asset data requirements and support the implementation and optimisation of CAFM, CMMS, EAM, and BIM‑enabled systems.
- Interpret complex datasets and develop clear insights, dashboards, and reporting outputs.
- Support clients in improving data governance, data quality, asset information standards, and digital workflows.
- Understand client’s needs and business requirements; present recommendations with clarity, impact, and robust evidence to ensure their aims and objectives are met.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
- Engage with leadership, estates teams, and operational stakeholders to understand goals and challenges.
- Facilitate workshops, technical briefings, maturity assessments, and strategic reviews.
- Identify opportunities to develop further business with new and existing clients across other RLB services.
Candidate Profile
- Qualifications
- Degree in Building Surveying, Engineering, Asset Management, Construction, or a related discipline.
- Professional membership desirable: IAM (Institute of Asset Management) RICS, ICE, CIOB, or similar.
- Additional project management qualifications are beneficial.
- Experience delivering asset management, strategic estates advisory, or lifecycle planning services within consultancy, construction, or infrastructure environments.
- Experience delivering programmes across multi‑site or complex estates.
- Experience with surveys, asset data capture, PPM creation, or strategic investment planning.
- Understanding of relevant UK frameworks and standards (ISO 55000, RICS guidance, HM Treasury Green/Orange Book, etc.).
- Exposure to retail, commercial, education, or public sector portfolios (desirable).
- Experience identifying and developing new client opportunities is an advantage.
- Recognised as a client focused, positive collaborator who shares knowledge freely and offers support to their peers and seniors.
