Assistant Engineer / Engineer
Salary Range: £32,841 – £45,564

Would you like to join a busy team that delivers a range of parking schemes and solutions in the Boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth? Are you an enthusiastic and hard‑working person who likes to work in a challenging and demanding environment?
Working in the Parking Policy Team within the Better Service Partnership (the shared public service team), you will primarily progress requests for parking bays for those with disabilities and for doctor surgeries. There will be an opportunity to assist the team in dealing with other parking matters including various aspects of controlled parking zones. In managing the workload, a good understanding of projects and a project‑management approach is required.
You will need good communication skills to deal with residents and businesses, Council members and Members of Parliament across both Boroughs, and must be able to conduct site visits and attend Council meetings as required.
About The Role
- Awareness of local government processes and procedures – understanding how Councils deliver services, particularly parking bays, and the democratic processes that shape decisions.
- Regulatory compliance/knowledge – comprehensive knowledge of legal requirements relating to traffic management orders, advertising and making of parking schemes.
- Communication – strong written and verbal skills, proficiency in Outlook and MS Teams, and the ability to discuss parking issues over the telephone and face‑to‑face with customers.
- Financial management / budget – understanding the importance of managing budgets and costs in parking scheme progression and analysing numerical data.
- Site work – undertaking site assessments for parking bay applications; access to a car is desirable but not essential. Some site work may occur outside normal working hours.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Preferably a degree or HND with at least 2 years of post‑qualification experience; or a BTEC Stage 3 with at least 4 years of relevant experience; or a minimum of 5 years of experience in parking control and/or traffic order making.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Numerate with the ability to analyse data.
