Job Description
The Senior Legal Advisor will be a key part of the Bupa Global Legal team with responsibility for the provision of strategic commercial and regulatory legal advice to ensure effective management of legal risk to underpin delivery of the Bupa Global Business Unit strategy and Bupa\’s purpose in accordance with our values.
As a Senior Legal Advisor you will provide legal support in relation to Bupa Global Business Unit, with a focus on Insurance Sales and Distribution activities, and take a strong leadership role in managing legal risk across this key segment of the Bupa Global Business Unit activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a business partner by providing expert legal and commercial support to stakeholders in Bupa Global Business Unit to help it achieve its commercial goals aligned with Bupa’s strategy and risk appetite.
- Provide advice and support to the Business Unit in drafting and negotiating agreements including third‑party distribution agreements, reinsurance and retrocession agreements, and agreements for the provision by corporate clients of international private medical insurance, ensuring compliance with applicable law and regulation.
- Work closely with stakeholders to deliver effective support and advice as a key team member in RFI, RFP and competitive tender processes.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex technical legal queries, ensuring timely and commercially sound resolution.
- Handle a wide range of day‑to‑day requests.
- Keep up to date with external best practice and developments in law and regulation, maintaining current knowledge and ensuring continuous improvement.
- Ensure appropriate procedures provide the business with adequate advance notice of changes in law and regulation and an understanding of commercial implications.
What We’re Looking For
- A qualified lawyer with exceptional commercial awareness, including knowledge of data protection, information security and IP law.
- Understanding of the regulatory landscape and risk profile concerning insurance distribution.
- Experience drafting and negotiating customer‑facing agreements, including those related to healthcare benefits, and advising on managing associated risks.
- Strong drafting and negotiating skills, high attention to detail, and tenacity, critical thinking, and analytical skill.
- Exceptional commercial awareness and ability to build credibility with business stakeholders, influence outcomes and provide practical solutions.
- Experience making risk‑based decisions in a complex operating environment with multiple competing demands.
- Understanding of distribution channels and arrangements – strongly preferred.
