Kitchen Assistant

Richmond Villages Cheltenham – Hatherley Lane, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL51 6PN.

Shift pattern: 07:00‑15:00 or 08:00‑20:00, including alternative weekends. No late nights, offering excellent work‑life balance.

Job Description

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will support our chefs by maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all catering areas.

You are the cornerstone of the village's culinary operations, ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly.

  • Prepare simple meals and ancillary items under the Chef’s direction.
  • Wash dishes by hand or load the dishwasher, storing clean items neatly to minimise breakages.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors to keep them free from grease or spillage.
  • Clean work tables, walls, kitchen equipment and appliances, following cleaning schedules.
  • Operate kitchen equipment and move it safely between storage and work areas.
  • Ensure the kitchen is kept tidy, secured, rubbish removed, and supplies stored properly.
  • Adhere to company Food Safety and Health and Safety policies, maintaining all HACCP records.
  • Key Skills & Qualifications
  • Understanding of Health and Safety, maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment.
  • Up‑to‑date CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or equivalent) – preferred.
  • Prior experience in a catering department or kitchen – preferred.
  • Experience in a care environment and managing stock, with ability to prepare simple meals – preferred.
  • Organised, adaptable, able to work effectively within a team and independently.
