Infrastructure Engineer - VMware Horizon / VDIManchester | £70,000-£80,000 + Bonus & Benefits
Infrastructure Engineer required by an established innovative and cutting-edge technology organisation delivering highly secure infrastructure and services into sensitive UK environments. They're looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with strong hands-on experience across VMware / Omnissa Horizon, VDI and enterprise endpoint environments. This isn't a generic Infrastructure Engineer position and it isn't a pure Security Engineer role either. The real focus is somebody who understands how to own, support, improve and secure a large-scale Horizon / VDI environment, alongside thin-client and managed endpoint estates.
What you'll be working with
- You'll take responsibility across areas including:
- Omnissa Horizon / VMware Horizon VDI
- Horizon Connection Servers
- Unified Access Gateway (UAG)
- Instant Clones
- App Volumes
- Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM)
- Desktop pools and image lifecycle management
- VMware vSphere / ESXi
- Thin-client estates across multiple UK locations
- Windows endpoint / laptop management
- Active Directory and Group Policy
- Patching, hardening and vulnerability remediation
- Infrastructure monitoring and operational support
- Security controls within highly regulated environments
- Automation and scripting where appropriate
- You'll also work closely with wider infrastructure, networking and security teams to ensure the environment remains secure, resilient and properly maintained.
What I'm looking for
- VMware / Omnissa Horizon
- Enterprise VDI environments
- VMware vSphere / virtualisation
- Thin-client or EUC environments
- Windows infrastructure
- Active Directory / Group Policy
- Endpoint management, patching and hardening
- Troubleshooting complex infrastructure environments
- Experience with technologies such as IGEL, Dell Wyse, 10ZiG, Intune, SCCM / MECM, Workspace ONE or PowerShell would also be useful.
- You do not need to tick every single box.
- What matters is that you have strong infrastructure fundamentals and genuine hands-on depth across the core Horizon / VDI environment.
Security Clearance
Current SC clearance is strongly preferred, and you must be willing to undergo DV clearance where required. However, I'm also happy to speak with technically exceptional candidates who do not currently hold clearance but who are eligible and willing to undergo UK security vetting. Naturally, where somebody is not already cleared, I'll be looking for particularly strong alignment across the technical requirement.
Location
Manchester - 5 days per week onsite. There will also be occasional travel to other UK customer / operational sites, so candidates need to be comfortable working primarily onsite rather than looking for a hybrid position.
Package
£70,000-£80,000 basic salary + bonus and benefits. There may be additional flexibility for particularly strong candidates already holding higher-level security clearance.
Current clearance is highly desirable, but don't automatically rule yourself out if you don't currently hold it.
