Overview

Having recently celebrated our 150th Anniversary, Richmond HC, one of the UK’s largest and most vibrant field hockey clubs, is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Junior Hockey to lead and develop our thriving junior section. Unfortunately, due to a change in personal circumstances, we will be saying goodbye to Hamish as he moves back to Scotland, hence the vacancy arising.

Start Date: August 2026 (or earlier by agreement)

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

About Us

Richmond Hockey Club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all committee members, coaches, captains, players, and volunteers in whatever capacity to share this commitment. Richmond Hockey Club currently has 8 Open/Mens teams (with both M1 and M2 now playing in the National League) and 5 Womens teams (W1 promoted 2025/6). Our Junior Section is thriving, having now grown to approximately 550 juniors aged 5–18. Significant numbers of our Juniors are integrated into adult teams each week. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality coaching in a fun, inclusive, and competitive environment. Our junior section is one of the largest in the country, with a growing track record of developing players having achieved National success in the past year at U16 level. As at June 2026, we are entering into Year 3 of our Talent Centre accreditation having secured a place within the 2nd cohort of Clubs. Our home grounds are also one of the very few sites in the Country with 3 full-size astro-turf pitches in the same location. Richmond Hockey Club has achieved ClubMark status and has submitted its latest application for renewal as at May 2026.

The Role

  • Leading the strategic development of the junior section
  • Overseeing and mentoring a team of coaches and volunteers
  • Designing and delivering a high-quality coaching programme across all age groups
  • Managing junior fixtures, festivals, and tournaments
  • Supporting player development pathways from grassroots to performance level
  • Fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for all players
  • Working alongside Senior Section Coaches to identify junior players for transition to Adult Hockey
  • Directing Talent Centre Status / liaising with England Hockey
