Oak Lodge School is a secondary school for students with hearing, speech and language and communication needs with a residential provision. We are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant with strong BSL skills to support our D/deaf pupils.
Essential requirements
- BSL Level 3
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a school setting
- Experience working with deaf and/or language impaired children and young people
- Experience using BSL to support children's communication and learning
- Grade A-C or Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics

Your responsibilities
- Using BSL effectively to support pupilsβ communication, understanding and access to learning
- Supporting pupils in accessing learning activities, adapting communication strategies as needed
- Creating BSL resources and visual materials to support D/deaf learners
- Supporting pupils to develop their BSL skills and confidence in using sign language
- Providing personal care and implementing individual programmes
- Supervising and supporting pupils when swimming, including entering the water
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families
- Promoting inclusion, independence and positive behaviour
