Salary: £30,225 – £31,574 pro rata. Contract: Fixed Term Until July2027 (secondment for internal staff). Hours: Part Time, 14.4 hours per week, typically across two full working days or spread over three shorter days. Working model: Hybrid – split between Wandsworth Town Hall and remote working.

Objectives of the Role

Richmond and Wandsworth Public Health are expanding the extended supervised toothbrushing programme (STP) under the Government’s Plan for Change to give children the best start in life and prevent ill health. The programme is being rolled out to children aged 3‑5 across early years settings, including nurseries and primary schools, with a focus on those in the most deprived areas of each borough. The role supports the rollout by increasing uptake among schools and early years settings, contributing to programme delivery, sharing good practice and ensuring the smooth running of the service. The officer also supports data collection and monitoring, using analytical skills to interpret information and inform continuous service improvement.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be a confident and proactive communicator with strong organisational and project coordination skills, enabling a structured and systematic approach to engaging early years settings and increasing uptake of the supervised toothbrushing programme. While not working directly with children and families, you will play a vital role in supporting those who deliver the programme by ensuring effective engagement and participation. You will also have a genuine interest in promoting young children’s health and a passion for improving outcomes in this important area. A background in a similar role is not essential; however, experience within public health, project management or business administration would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality professional attention to detail supporting the supervised toothbrushing and Public Health team, ensuring effective programme delivery.
  • Promote, engage and increase uptake of the programme in early years settings and schools, working closely with the Community Dental Service (CDS) and wider stakeholders.
  • Coordinate programme logistics, including resources, equipment and the distribution of toothbrush packs to early years settings.
  • Maintain and monitor programme data, including updating dashboards, supporting data collection, tracking performance and identifying trends to inform continuous improvement.
  • Manage communications and act as the first point of contact for enquiries, ensuring all interactions are professional, clear and handled with confidentiality.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection and council policies, while maintaining accurate administrative systems and taking appropriate follow‑up action.
  • Contribute to team meetings, service development and ongoing professional learning to support continuous improvement of the programme.

Key Qualifications

  • GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level3 in Business Administration or equivalent experience.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, including accurate data management, attention to detail and confident telephone handling.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work efficiently in a structured way.
  • Good analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and support informed decision‑making.

Benefits

We offer a wide range of benefits such as 40 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays), flexible working and a generous pension plan.
