Role Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and caring After School Care Play Leader to help lead and develop our provision, ensuring it is a purposeful, creative and nurturing extension of the school day for all children. This is a part‑time position of up to 17.5 hours per week (fixed term contract, Autumn Term 2026 onwards).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality, engaging experiences for children beyond the school day.
  • Lead engaging activities that promote creativity, independence, teamwork, and wellbeing.
  • Support the welfare, safety and wellbeing of children through high‑quality care and supervision.
  • Plan and deliver a stimulating range of age‑appropriate activities, including creative, physical and enrichment opportunities.
  • Create an organised, engaging and well‑resourced play environment.
  • Build genuine, positive relationships with children and support their social and emotional development.
  • Reflect on practice and adapt provision to meet the individual needs of children.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers and school staff to ensure strong communication and consistency.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality at all times.
  • Contribute to the effective handling of concerns, incidents or complaints in a professional manner.
  • Act as a positive role model and maintain high professional standards at all times.

Essential Qualities

  • Passionate about play, child development and creating enriching experiences for children.
  • Can create a safe, inclusive, stimulating and welcoming environment where every child feels valued and happy.
  • Experience working with primary‑aged children in a school, childcare or play setting.
  • Has high expectations of behaviour and can build positive relationships with children and families.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and communicates confidently with colleagues, parents and carers.
  • Is organised, proactive and able to contribute to the smooth day‑to‑day running of the provision.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
