Objective of role

Delivering Bikeability to the National Standards to adults, families, and children during, daytimes, evenings, and weekends.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work as a professional Cycle Instructor and advise trainees, both adults and children on matters of road safety in relation to cyclists, pedestrians and scooters and deliver cycle training to the National Standard in schools and at other venues as set out in theCycle TrainingDelivery Guide (CTDG).
  • To assist the Road Safety Team in providing a comprehensive National Standard cycling program for schools as set out in theCycle Training Delivery Guide (CTDG).
  • Be responsible for health and safety during cycle training session.
  • Conduct suitable risk benefit assessment of the clients, the cycles, the training area and on road locations both formative & dynamic.
  • Liaise with service users as necessary.
  • Give advice to service users on any relevant cycling matters.
  • Completion of course paperwork, including registers, client assessment forms, course reports, risk benefit assessments and results in a timely manner.
  • To undertake any other duties corresponding with the grading and overall intent of the post which are appropriate to the Road Safety Team.

About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic cyclists to join the Road Safety Team on a fixed-term contract, to help increase the number of children and adults trained, to cycle safely. You need to be a qualified cycle training instructor and have the Level 2 Award in Instructor Training and have booked in and or completed your RPL Training.

You will be responsible for delivering Bikeability to the National Standards to adults, families, and children during, daytimes, evenings, and weekends. The bulk of the work is level 2 training delivered within school hours. Although some work can come up ad hoc, where possible we schedule months in advance.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic, friendly team and will also assist with campaigns and projects which aim to raise the profile of cycling amongst local and school communities.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • National Standard Accreditation – Level 2 Award in Instructor Training
  • Have a secure knowledge and understanding of the Cycle Training Delivery Guide (CTDG).
  • Have a good understanding of the Highway Code.
  • Basic cycle maintenance, as set out in the Cycle Training Delivery Guide (CTDG).
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Have a confident assertive riding style to Level 3.
  • Carried out cycle training previously.
  • Proven ability to communicate with children / adults, individually and in groups.
  • Experience of working with children in a learning environment.
  • Ability to show patience and tact.
  • Be punctual and reliable.
  • To be physically fit and healthy, including good eyesight and hearing.
  • To be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Children Act 2004 and Working Together in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young people as this applies to your role within the Council. To also be fully aware of the principles of safeguarding as they apply to vulnerable adults in relation to your work role.
