Are you highly organised, detail‑oriented and passionate about supporting school governance? Join our dedicated team as a Clerk to School Governing Boards. This is a key role providing professional clerking services to governing boards across our schools, ensuring effective governance and compliance with statutory requirements.

About the Role

This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to school improvement and governance. You will be part of a supportive team with access to professional development and progression opportunities. In this varied role you will:

  • Prepare agendas and distribute papers in advance of meetings.
  • Attend governing board meetings (including evenings and early mornings) and produce accurate minutes.
  • Advise on governance legislation, procedural matters and conflicts of interest.
  • Maintain membership records and support the appointment/election process.
  • Ensure statutory policies and documentation are up to date and accessible.
  • Provide guidance and support to governors, including new members.
  • Promote a culture of challenge and continuous improvement within boards.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in record keeping, data management and minute‑taking.
  • Knowledge of school governance procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Willingness to attend training, including the NGA Clerks Programme.

Additional Requirements

  • Flexibility to attend meetings outside standard working hours.
  • Ability to travel to school sites as required.
  • Reliable IT access for remote working (equipment provided).
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting equality and inclusion.
