We are looking forward to appointing two motivated and skilled Business Rates Officers to join our Finance Directorate within the Better Service Partnership. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high performing, fast paced team that plays a key part in supporting the Council's financial stability.
As a Business Rates Officer, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient administration of Non Domestic Rates (NNDR). You will work as part of a dynamic team committed to achieving strong performance against challenging financial and operational targets.
About the role:
- You will be an enthusiastic and committed team player with up-to-date knowledge of Business Rates legislation and a strong understanding of NNDR processes.
- You should be able to work confidently with minimal supervision and demonstrate:
- Experience administering Business Rates in a local authority or similar environment
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly
- Accuracy and attention to detail when managing large volumes of data
- The ability to meet set targets and work to tight deadlines
- A positive, solution focused approach to work
- Confidence in using relevant systems and IT applications
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Administering all aspects of Business Rates within statutory deadlines and performance targets
- Processing changes to liability, exemptions, reliefs, and refunds
- Liaising professionally with ratepayers, businesses, agents, internal departments, and external stakeholders
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring legislative compliance
- Supporting recovery action where required
- Contributing to service improvement and high quality customer service
