Richmack Ltd is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Contracts Engineer to join our team in Livingston.
We are a family-run civil engineering contractor delivering a wide variety of civil engineering, infrastructure, building and maintenance works.
This is a varied role suited to someone with a strong civil engineering background who is comfortable taking responsibility for the planning, coordination and delivery of multiple small projects at the same time.
The role will be based from our Livingston office, with regular site visits and hands‑on involvement in the day‑to‑day delivery of projects. The majority of our work is within Livingston and the surrounding area, although occasional travel further afield may be required.
Our projects are delivered across a mixture of dayshift and nightshift working, and the successful candidate must therefore be flexible to suit project requirements. While the majority of the role will be undertaken during normal working hours, attendance on nightshift will be required where necessary to manage, supervise or support specific works.
Key Responsibilities

- Manage and allocate labour across site teams
- Carry out site visits, surveys and pre-start assessments
- Review drawings, specifications and client requirements
- Prepare material take-offs and coordinate material requirements

- Provide technical and engineering support to site teams
- Monitor progress, quality and programme
- Coordinate QA requirements and maintain appropriate site records
- Liaise with clients, supervisors, operatives, suppliers and subcontractors
- Identify and resolve technical and practical issues as they arise
- Make day‑to‑day decisions to keep projects progressing
- Identify variations and additional works and report these to the Contracts Manager
- Assist with the development and improvement of company systems and procedures
About You
We are looking for someone who is technically capable but, equally importantly, has the practical ability and confidence to organise people, make decisions and get works delivered.
Ideally, you will have:
- A background in civil engineering or construction
- HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- Experience managing or supervising civil engineering works
- Strong understanding of construction methods, drawings and specifications
- Experience producing RAMS and construction documentation
- Ability to complete material take-offs and plan resources
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and site teams
- A practical approach to problem solving and decision making
- Flexibility to work and attend both dayshift and nightshift operations as required
- Good IT and general administration skills
- Full UK driving licence
Experience within civils, infrastructure, maintenance, utilities, roads, concrete works or general construction would be beneficial.
We are particularly interested in someone who has progressed from an engineering/site background and is now looking for a broader role combining engineering, project planning and operational management.
The successful candidate will work closely with our Contracts Manager and will have significant responsibility for the day‑to‑day planning and successful delivery of our projects.
