Job Specification
To produce a collaborative design solution for each contract. This will be done by ensuring compliance to manufacturer’s recommendations and company procedures as well as the client’s requirements in line with current legislation. You will be responsible for managing your own time to ensure timely delivery of drawing and material schedules.
The main duties of the role are as follows:
- Prepare and issue details, plans, sections and general arrangement drawings as required for each project to enable approval, material scheduling and issuing for construction working with the constraints for each project for all aspects of roofing and cladding systems.
- Produce and issue material schedules to the buying team for procurement once the drawings are approved by the project design team.
- Become conversant with the Project Specification, Estimate and Enquiry drawings that form the basis of each order.
- Be conversant with and apply the requirements of the Internal Q.A. procedures.
- Liaise with members of the Design Team to source all necessary information.
- Highlight any variations between enquiry drawings and construction issue drawings ensuring that any variations generated by the receipt of new information are highlighted.
- Issue drawings and schedule materials as required suiting each specific site program ensuring all key dates given on programme are met.
- Attend handover meetings as required to discuss the project, identify design areas needing attention and clarification in respect of the scope of works.
- Familiarise oneself with the various disciplines and sectors in which the business delivers projects in order to develop their system knowledge and awareness.
- Attend both site & design meetings as required – whether in person or remotely via Teams or Zoom.
- Prepare weekly progress reports (red lines) for each contract in accordance with programme for review / discussion during the regular departmental look ahead meetings.
- Assist the Drawing Office Manager to co-ordinate the project workload with the other design team members when multiple team members are working on the same project.
- Check drawings and update as necessary to comply with as-built status.
- Liaise with system providers and manufacturers to obtain any relevant supporting system calcs – example items such as static calcs or drainage calcs as required.
- Liaise with independent structural engineers to identify technical calculation requirements & issue supporting data.
- Back checking of material schedules produced by other members of the Richardson design team.
Personal Specification
You will have an HNC, equivalent or higher qualification, ideally in a design related subject together with prior experience as a CAD Designer in a related sector of the industry. You will be computer literate and competent using the latest editions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), whilst also being proficient in AutoCAD. Experience of 3D software is desirable but not essential. You will have high standards of numeracy, oral and written communication skills and be able to demonstrate a capability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively and on own initiative. You will be someone who takes ownership for their work and be able to represent the company's interests.
