Operating under Richardson Oat Milling, Crisp Malt, EDME, and Micronized Food Products (MFP), Richardson supplies the domestic and international food, brewing, and distilling industries.
We currently have an opportunity for a Maltings Manager at our Crisp Malt, Portgordon location.
Job Purpose
The Maltings Manager is the responsible duty holder for all operations that take place on their individual site. The purpose is to produce the volume and quality of malt as required to the customer schedule, while ensuring the safe operations of the site personnel and equipment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the site to comply with Health and Safety legislation, company policies, Food safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Ensure assets are maintained to safe operating conditions, are capable of producing the product quality and quantities required.
- Ensure all products are produced to the quality and cost required.
- Overall management of the production and engineering staff to ensure safety, production and maintenance requirements are achieved.
- Accountable for the site financial performance.
- Implementation and maintenance of a production and demand plan, ensuring that group plan objectives are achieved.
- Plan production budget with required maintenance outages.
- Conformance to safe working practices by ensuring that all tasks have adequate procedures and risk assessments.
- Develop safe working practices for all maintenance activities.
- Conformance to any permit/regulations requirements, completion of reports and documentation required to submit to authorities.
- Ensure all site operations work to the required standards, staff are sufficiently trained, documentation is fit for requirement and maintained.
- Audit site processes and procedures to ensure compliance to company and legal standards.
- Ensure a PPM schedule is in place and carried out to minimise breakdown times.
- Maintain a plant condition overview highlighting at risk assets.
- Manage maintenance of equipment using appropriate tools and systems.
- Liaise with Group Engineering team when technical and project assistance is required.
- Monitor and report issues with impact on quality.
- Monitor and maintain an overview of quality performance and make appropriate process changes to ensure quality requirements.
- Communicate and motivate the site staff to achieve site KPI’s.
- Ensure staff are adequately trained, development plans and succession potentials are maintained and developed.
- Manage HR issues as they arise and ensure processes such as return to work interviews are conducted.
- Create and monitor site productivity performance, ensure teams are effective, trained and work to required output.
- Ensure accurate controls of stocks and timely reporting.
- Monitoring and control of budget spending.
- Participate in regular operational and planning meetings.
- Ensure shutdowns required for maintenance and or projects are fully planned and communicated with the relevant parties.
- Ensure any potential quality impacts are elevated to the senior management and planning team to limit impact to delivery schedules.
- Weekend and weekly on call coverage.

- Essential
- Experience of managing a site in the food manufacturing industry.
- Strong communication skills to develop working relationships.
- Experience with managing maintenance engineers.
- Have a flexible approach to working hours.
- Desirable
- Malting site management experience.
- Leadership or Management qualification.
- Malting Diploma qualification.
