Since 1870 we\’ve been making malted barley for brewers and distillers all over the world from our home maltings in Norfolk, England. We currently have an opportunity for a temporary Harvest Operative at our Portgordon location.

The Harvest Operator is responsible for testing of raw and finished material to meet required specification, weighing and data entry of vehicle for intake and dispatch and co-ordination of outgoing material.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work with the site team to ensure grain is of the required quality at intake. Ensure accurate and precise testing of raw material.
  • Cover weighbridge operations during available hours and input of tickets as well as the Input of tickets from the previous day.
  • Work with the site team with the loading and dispatch of finished malt product and feed.
  • Carry out sample testing at pre-steep, malt, pellet and bulk, and preparation of sample collections. Rotation and maintenance of sample storage.
  • Work with the Intake Manager to ensure weighbridge and equipment is maintained and calibrated regularly.
  • Support with administration tasks, including cleaning schedules and shift handover documents.
  • Work with site management to ensure compliance to health and safety procedures and take an active role in improving site safety.
  • Ensure Weighbridge area is clean and tidy and complies with health and food safety regulations.
  • Work with the site team to perform accurate and precise testing of each raw material delivery against a pre-determined specification. Ensure testing is completed as described in the Crisp safe systems of work.
  • Complete thorough checking of representative load samples of delivery to identify any detrimental attributes that could cause storage and processing issues or pose a food safety risk. These include but are not limited to insect infestation, ergot, fusarium, rodent droppings, admixture and split or skinned corns.
  • Work with the site team to ensure incoming grain is tipped in the correct locations.
  • Ensure that each load is delivered with the correct paperwork (combinable crops passport for raw grain) and paperwork is completed correctly.
  • Ensure that the grain management system is up to date and information is entered correctly.
  • Ensure a sample of each load (including rejected loads) is retained for 24 months and can be found easily. Samples must be well labelled and store in a sealed vessel to maintain the intake quality.
  • Work with the site team to ensure vehicles are directed to the correct loading location and are loaded with the correct product.
  • Assist with ensuring that vehicles loading in bulk are checked for cleanliness and the previous three loads are examined to comply with food safety regulations.
  • Ensure dispatch paperwork is completed correctly and dispatched with the correct product. Ensure the grain management system is kept up to date with the correct information.
  • Ensure required paperwork is completed correctly and records are maintained to comply with FEMAS regulations.
  • Ensure all equipment for the weighbridge and Laboratory are kept in good condition, is cleaned regularly and is checked for defaults. Any breakages must be reported to the Line Manager as soon as possible.
  • Work with the IT department to ensure computer systems are in good working order.
  • Report identified hazards, near misses and accidents to your line manager as soon as possible to allow action to be taken.
  • Report any breaches in Crisp procedures to your line manager as soon as possible to ensure Crisp requirements and legal requirements are met.
  • Ensure that the weighbridge area and Laboratory, both inside and outside is kept clean and tidy to an auditable standard to ensure compliance to food safety regulations and customer requirements.
  • Assist the site team to perform cleaning tasks around site as required.
  • Provide additional support to other areas of the site during reduced intake periods as requested by the site management team.
