Operating under Richardson Oat Milling, Crisp Malt, EDME, and Micronized Food Products (MFP), Richardson supplies the domestic and international food, brewing, and distilling industries.

We currently have an opportunity for a Weighbridge Operator/Laboratory Technician with a 80/20 split at our Crisp Malt, Great Ryburgh location.

Key Duties and Responsibilities - Weighbridge
  • Work to strict product specifications to ensure that grain is of the required quality at the intake stage.
  • Complete thorough checking of representative load samples of delivery to identify any detrimental attributes that could cause storage and processing issues or pose a food safety risk.
  • Ensure that each load is delivered with the correct paperwork and paperwork is completed correctly.
  • Work with the site team to ensure vehicles are directed to the correct delivery locations.
  • Work with the Intake Manager to ensure weighbridge and equipment is maintained and calibrated regularly, reporting any defects.
  • Rotation and maintenance of sample storage.
  • Ensure that the grain management system is up to date and information is entered correctly.
  • Support with administration tasks, including cleaning schedules.
  • Ensure Weighbridge area is clean and tidy and complies with health and food safety regulations.
  • Assist with ensuring that vehicles loading in bulk are checked for cleanliness and the previous three loads are examined to comply with food safety regulations.
  • Ensure dispatch paperwork is completed correctly and dispatched with the correct product.
  • Ensure required paperwork is completed correctly and records are maintained to comply with FEMAS regulations.
  • Ensure all equipment for the weighbridge are kept in good condition, are cleaned regularly and are checked for defaults.
  • Ensure that the weighbridge area and Laboratory, both inside and outside is kept clean and tidy to an auditable standard.
  • Assist the site team to perform cleaning tasks around site as required.
  • Provide additional support to other areas of the site during reduced intake periods as requested by the site management team.
  • Work with the site team to ensure the safe, efficient and correct loading and dispatch of finished malt product and feed materials.
Key Duties and Responsibilities - Laboratory
  • Laboratory Analysis - Follow written methods of analysis ensuring the highest standards of accuracy.
  • Result Reporting – Report results in a timely manner.
  • Result Documentation – Record and keep results produced in the required format.
  • Instrumentation and Equipment – Instruments and equipment should be maintained in a clean condition and be in a fully working order.
  • Working Area - All areas should be kept clean and tidy to an auditable standard.
  • Procedures – Maintain procedures as required to determine laboratory performance.
  • Stock Levels – Monitor consumable and chemical stocks and report any short falls promptly.
  • Relationships – Good working relationship within the Laboratory and internal customers.
  • Ways of Working – Technicians should be flexible and become proficient in all procedures.
  • Compliance – Comply with company, national and international standards and legislation.

Qualifications, skills and experienceEssential
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and without supervision.
  • Able to work within a fast-paced environment.
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours.
  • Strong communication skills to develop working relationships.
  • Full, clean UK driving license.
  • Experience of using computer based operating systems.
  • High level of attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • High levels of attendance and timekeeping.
  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Desirable
  • Experience working within Maltings.
  • Fork Lift Truck licence.
  • Relevant weighbridge and/or Laboratory experience.
  • Previous Laboratory Experience.
  • Experience working with Food Industry.
  • Understanding of the safe use of chemicals.
  • A Level or above in a science.
