An opportunity has arisen for a Junior Trade Accountant to join the London Accounts team of an established Commodity Trading business. This is an opportunity for a Part Qualified or newly qualified Accountant to gain hands-on experience and develop their finance skills within a commodities environment. The role involves supporting two Trade Accountants in their daily accounting and control activities of the trade desk, month-end accounting tasks, and time built in for work on projects & process improvements. We expect the combination of daily responsibilities, and training from our team of experienced commodity specialists.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Trade Accountants with the daily and monthly activities for the London trading desk, including the daily P&L, cash accounting, various reconciliations and journal postings.
- Work closely with the accounting team in India and ensure that their daily work/processes are reviewed and approved and escalate any queries to the Trade Accountants or Financial Controller.
- Support the Trade Accountants with continuous process improvement by identifying inefficiencies in the trade accounting workflows and proposing automation or system enhancements.
- Support implementation of standardised procedures and internal controls to strengthen accuracy, transparency and audit readiness.
- Assist with ad hoc queries from trade and shipping teams.
- Support ad hoc cyclical finance activities such as assisting in monthly cash-flow forecasting, FX exposure management, and new system implementation.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- This role will suit a focused self-starter with an interest to gain experience within an accounting role and happy to support the team with the processes.
- Attention to detail, an analytical thought process, and strong team ethic are key as well as effective communication skills as will be working with the India, Accounts and Trade teams.
- Time management and ability to prioritise workload are also important attributes.
- This role is ideally suited to a part qualified / newly qualified Accountant with relevant experience or newly qualified accountant.
- Individual must have strong accounting skills and a desire to learn about the commodity trading industry.
- Exposure working in an international organisation would be an advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of Excel is also essential, and knowledge of Navision and Cognos would also be an advantage or a similar system.
