Our client is an international energy trading and marketing organisation based in London. The business focuses on crude oil marketing, integrating regional production with global customer demand, and expanding its presence across European and international markets. In addition to core trading activities, the company engages in a range of related operations including shipping, chartering, storage, and financial derivatives trading. There is also a growing emphasis on refining system supply and the export of refined products. The London office forms part of a broader global network, enabling continuous operational coverage across key time zones including Asia, Europe, and the Americas. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for managing and ensuring all accounting activities are undertaken in a timely and accurate manner, including: month-end close, budgeting and forecasting, internal financial reporting, profit & loss and balance sheet reconciliations, audit coordination, and tax compliance.
- Participating in the month-end closing process and reconciliations, liaising with head office finance teams to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
- Applying appropriate accounting treatment for revenue and cost recognition based on cargo risk and title transfer points.
- Processing, verifying, and reconciling system journal entries, and posting cargo-related settlement cash flows.
- Performing intercompany transaction reconciliation and confirmations (purchases, sales, receivables, payables, cash flows) in line with reporting schedules.
- Completing reporting packs via internal reporting platforms (monthly/quarterly/annual) and submitting required financial data per head office timelines.
- Conducting budget projections, variance analysis, and monthly trading performance reviews.
- Supporting internal and external audit processes, including responding to queries and providing documentation.
- Facilitating efficient monthly closing, bank reconciliations, and journal documentation.
- Performing other tasks as required.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant accounting experience.
- Fluent in Mandarin and English.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Familiarity with international accounting standards and tax frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of accounting procedures, including month-end reporting and forecasting.
- Numerate and IT proficient (SAP experience desirable).
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Effective communication with internal teams and head office.
- Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin required for communication with overseas teams.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 3 years of relevant industry experience preferred.
- Experience with IFRS and UK statutory accounting and reporting requirements.
- Strong budgeting and forecasting experience.
