We are seeking a Senior Market Risk Analyst to join a global energy trading organisation in London. The role focuses on daily analysis of Structured Products trading activity, including reporting on positions and P&L, while providing support across other desks such as Gas, Crude Oil Derivatives, LNG, and Power & Emissions. You will also contribute to Market Risk projects, including covering reporting responsibilities as needed.
The team is highly focused on automation and continuous improvement, with a strong emphasis on developing tools to enhance efficiency and analytics. This includes building solutions to support front office trading using techniques such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, with opportunities to contribute directly to these initiatives.
Operating within global energy markets, the organisation is active across crude oil, refined products, and biofuels, with an international presence spanning multiple regions. It plays a key role in trading, logistics, and sourcing across both traditional and lower-carbon energy sectors, with an increasing focus on sustainability and the evolving energy landscape.
Main Responsibilities- Preparing and reviewing daily P&L and risk reports, monitoring limits, and proactively resolving issues in coordination with relevant teams.
- Supporting front office in obtaining approval for new and non-standard products.
- Assisting in identifying significant risks within the business and ensuring transparency to senior management.
- Providing information and commentary for bi-weekly Risk Committee meetings.
- Reviewing and approving relevant changes to the main ETRM system (Endur).
- Ensuring compliance with trading procedures and controls and supporting internal and external audit requests when required.
- Participating in the enhancement of reporting and development of reporting systems.
- University degree in a numerate discipline (e.g. economics, mathematics, science, finance, engineering or similar).
- Relevant experience in a market risk role within commodity trading companies or financial institutions.
- Strong knowledge of risk metrics such as VaR, stress testing, and scenario analysis.
- Good understanding of derivatives and options.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel and VBA); SQL and Python are advantageous.
- Knowledge of the Endur ETRM system is an advantage.
- Analytical mindset with strong numerical skills.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior management and stakeholders.
