Our client is an established Oil trading company, with physical assets across Europe. They actively source, refine, market and trade Crude Oil and Oil products, chemicals, and associated financial derivatives. We are seeking a candidate with a proven track record of delivery as a Barge Charterer, ideally with experience as a Ship Broker/Operator/Junior Charterer, ideally with oil vessel/tankers experience, to join a small team responsible for trading the production from EU based assets.
The successful candidate will ensure that all chartering activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively, securing suitable vessels and freight terms to guarantee the timely and reliable delivery of feedstocks into the assets and delivery of products to counterparties. As well as close liaison with traders, this role will require strong contact in other areas of the company (including Operations, risk, etc.).
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Commercial responsibility for all spot and term chartering barge activities for clean petroleum products and chemicals in ARA and Germany.
- Manage Contract of Affreightments (COA) for all barge chartering activity, ensuring compliance with COA terms and volumes.
- Managing time charter barges, balancing the needs of the business against COA tonnage.
- Developing future time charter and contract opportunities in order to arrange the best outcome with minimal freight and demurrage exposure.
- Good knowledge of European barge markets.
- Assisting with vessel chartering for all crude and feedstock imports and petroleum products export cargoes.
- Co-ordinating closely with Refinery Planning & Scheduling teams and traders to arrange cargo operations, checking product availability and arranging shipping and chartering schedules accordingly.
- Ensuring efficient & accurate implementation of cargo contracts regarding the transportation of the cargoes.
- Providing daily market information and forward trends to the trading team.
- Freight payments.
- Liaising with contract partners for vetting vessels.
- Working closely with the trading, chartering and operations teams.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, brokers and clients.

- In depth knowledge of the Oil & Gas Markets.
- Expert understanding of industry-standard charterparty terms and conditions.
- Highly numerate and analytical.
- Strong business acumen.
- Open and trustworthy with strong communication and networking ability.
- Team player essential / willing to share knowledge.
- Aspect experience is preferred but not essential.
- Flexible, reliable and conscientious, able to work under pressure and stress, well organised and able to balance multiple priorities while working to tight deadlines.
- A strong track record of establishing and maintaining good and professional working relationships with internal and external counterparties.
