Our client is a well-respected International Metals Trading Company based in Central London. This role is focused on ensuring the most efficient and cost-effective freighting (primarily by way of ocean shipping) of finished product and raw material goods internationally.

DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To maintain a high level of freight market knowledge enabling the fast and accurate provision of freight rates to company trading units enabling them to structure and cost new transactions accurately.
  • To charter bulk vessels (primarily on voyage charter basis) and containers.
  • To organise the international movements of goods, inspection and warehousing of cargoes within Group guidelines.
  • Ensure cargo liftings are negotiated and subsequently fixed at market freight levels and to ensure charterparties are legally binding, commercially sound and within company requirements.
  • Nominate vessels, secure acceptance and manage all post-fixture activities.
  • To liaise with insurance brokers regarding loading and discharge surveys and insurance declarations.
  • To negotiate with port agents/transport operators in order to ensure goods are discharged and stored as required.
  • To ensure all documentation is available to agents for Customs clearance.
  • Produce Laytime Calcs and negotiate demurrage/dispatch with counterparties.
  • To resolve practical issues and disputes with counterparties professionally and proactively.
  • Pro-actively serve company trading units for both ongoing business and business development.
  • Any other tasks as reasonably assigned to you.

KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Target 3-5 years experience.
  • Commercial understanding of international commodity trading, ideally with experience of metals.
  • Detailed knowledge of shipping regulations and requirements, charterparties and insurance regime, ideally having completed the Institute of Chartered Ship Broker exams.
  • Strong Teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Full fluency of English with an additional language being an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge relating to charterparties, shipping disputes and insurance claims.
  • Ability to handle detail efficiently in the context of broader conceptual understanding.
  • Ability to juggle many tasks concurrently.
  • Strong IT skills on Microsoft Office Suite.
