Our client is a marketing and trading business supporting global energy operations. They are involved in equity production marketing, third-party trading, shipping, storage, and derivatives. The organisation operates across global time zones and continues to grow its European customer base across a range of energy products.
Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a Legal and Compliance Counsel to assist the CFO with the company's Business Risk Review related matters, carry out the company's business compliance review, verify and deal with internal or external compliance complaints, ensure the company meets the requirements of external regulatory laws and regulations, provide internal legal advice, carry out regular compliance internal audits, assist in updating and formulating the company's compliance policy, identify potential compliance risks and provide recommendations to mitigate risks, communicate with relevant external regulators, and maintain effective communication relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing legal documents and contracts.
- Representing the company in legal proceedings and negotiations.
- Providing timely, technically accurate and commercially aware legal advice to the company.
- Conducting trade regulation analyses.
- Be responsible for the daily company compliance matters, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, identifying potential compliance risks in a timely manner and making recommendations on how to mitigate them.
- Responsible for handling all related matters and cooperation involving interface with law firms.
- Advising on risk management and legal implications of policy decisions.
- Conducting surveillance and compliance risk analyses of high-risk counterparties and agents.
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders.
- Providing training to all employees on legal issues and compliance.
- Participating in strategic planning and decision-making at a senior level.
- Undertaking project work as required.
Bachelor’s degree in the major of legal profession.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES- A qualified solicitor in the UK or similar jurisdiction.
- Proven experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts is essential.
- Understand the compliance management very well.
- Excellent communication skills, logical thinking and well organised.
At least 5 years of demonstrable experience in supporting wider Corporate / Commercial issues is desirable.
