Our client is a well-respected International Metals Commodity Trading Company based in Central London.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Logistics: Close liaison with ports, warehouses, freight forwarders, and agents including maintaining registers and up-to-date information on Approved Forwarders.
- Undertake due diligence on storage locations – including visiting ports and warehouses and writing reports evaluating new service providers.
- Appoint surveyors and inspectors to assess cargo quality and/or oversee vessel loading operations.
- Monitor vessel load and discharge operations and cargo movements.
- Assist trading teams with incorporation of correct INCO terms in commodity purchase and sales contracts.
- Assist trading teams with incorporation of workable shipping conditions in sale and purchase contracts – depending on experience.
- Work closely with trading teams with respect to cargo readiness and cargo movement requirements.
- Assist trading teams to manage risk associated with the movement, storage and handling of goods.
Shipping Administration:
- Act as a central administrator for the Shipping Team maintaining the central data for vessels chartered.
- Screen vessels and their owners/operators for sanctions and tracking compliance as per company policies and processes utilising software.
- Process freight, transport and storage invoices for payment.
- Obtain prompt release of shipping documents (bills of lading).
- Support vessel chartering/post fixture activities.
- Produce laytime calculations; and possibly negotiate demurrage/despatch with vessel owners/suppliers/buyers - depending on experience.
- Book containers / ro-ro services / barges / rail and trucks - depending on experience.
- Nominate vessels to suppliers/buyers/ports/forwarders depending on experience.
Claims:
- Manage the central administration for all marine cargo insurance claims relating to steel and raw material products for the London-based trading units, ensuring claims are processed to completion by the applicable trading team and data is passed to insurers as necessary.
- Registration of claims with mills and processing of these to ensure recoveries from relevant parties.
- Instructing surveyors as necessary.
- Interested party claims to resolve errors such as loading or invoicing errors.
- To issue periodic claims statistics data.
KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- A minimum of 5 years operations/logistics/traffic experience in commodities – ideally in metals.
- Experience in a similar role with a commodity trader.
- A good understanding of Incoterms.
- Strong attention to detail, accurate and thorough.
- A true Team Player whilst also able to work under their own steam.
- Good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including fluency in English.
- A willingness to travel and undertake port visits in the UK and overseas.
- A positive, practical, can-do attitude.
- Computer literate at least in the Microsoft Office suite, SAP would be an advantage.
