Growth and Opportunity
We are looking for a candidate whose key strength is the management of complex consultancy projects/programmes and stakeholder engagement, ideally with a background in sustainable aviation, and/or wider transport and climate policy.
Your work will involve project management and stakeholder management activities including client and partner relationship management. Many of our projects are complex multidisciplinary studies often involving several partner organisations and challenging logistical aspects, such as the organisation of workshops or training events overseas – we require candidates with some experience managing such projects.
Our work is focused on strategic policy advice covering a very wide range of issues and plays an integral role in driving regulatory approaches in the UK, Europe and worldwide. Projects are likely to include a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis, including analysis of policy costs/benefits, stakeholder consultation, survey design/implementation and making policy recommendations. We also work with the private sector and support companies’ decarbonisation efforts, empowering business leaders with award winning consultancy advice.
You will have the capacity to work flexibly across a range of thematic areas in aviation and climate policy, and will collaborate closely with other technical experts in multi-disciplinary teams. You should enjoy building relationships and demonstrate exceptional critical thinking and leadership skills. The role will also include carrying out stakeholder consultation with industry and government representatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the delivery of large complex consulting projects and programmes related to sustainable aviation and climate or transport policy. Responsibility for client satisfaction, timely delivery, coordination of partner inputs, project financial management and ensuring high-quality outputs.
- Carrying out a wide range of stakeholder consultation activities.
- Development and maintenance of close client and partner relationships at high level to support the winning of new business.
- Support bidding especially related to new programmes and/or stakeholder consultation opportunities.
- Manage, supervise and/or coach junior members of the team to help them achieve their full potential.
- Representing Ricardo and presenting our work at external events and engaging in wider business development activities.
Key Competencies and Experience
- Educated to a Master’s degree level or higher in a related discipline such as sustainability, sciences, economics, geography, engineering (e.g. aeronautical, civil, chemical), political science.
- Experience in managing consultancy projects and/or programmes, and stakeholder consultation activities.
- Relevant consultancy or advisory experience within the public or private sector, ideally on sustainable aviation and/or wider transport and climate policies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Great communicator, written and verbally including the ability to convey technical subjects clearly and concisely to a range of clients.
- Ability to utilise existing sector contacts to support new opportunities and build trust-based relationships with clients and potential partners.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team of specialists ranging from energy systems, engineering, alternative fuels to climate change experts.
- Excellent time management with the ability to juggle time across multiple projects and prioritise deadlines seamlessly.
- Fluency in English and excellent reporting writing skills.
Desirable Competencies and Experience
- Experience of working with the European Commission or other similar clients.
- Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and frameworks, such as ICAO’s Long term aspirational goals, CORSIA and EU Fit for 55 package.
- Familiarity with policy evaluation analysis methods and tools.
- Experience of organising workshops or the delivery of technical assistance
- Understanding of quantitative scenarios and models.
- We operate on a broad range of international projects within Europe, Latin America & South East Asia so fluency in other languages from these geographies is a bonus but not essential.
