The Role
We are looking to recruit a Contractor Site Electrician to work as part of an established team of site maintenance electricians, delivering safe, compliant, and reliable electrical support across a busy engineering site. The role involves carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, inspection, testing, and minor installations on a wide range of safety-critical, compliance-driven, and operational electrical and control systems. This is a varied position requiring work in both office and industrial environments. The Site Electrician will be competent in working on single-phase and three-phase electrical systems, including associated control systems, and will support site operations by maintaining critical infrastructure and responding effectively to electrical issues as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Site Electrician will be responsible for carrying out electrical installations, inspection, testing, maintenance, and fault rectification across both office and industrial environments.
- Electrical installations in office and industrial settings, including testing and inspection of own work.
- Planned and reactive electrical maintenance activities.
- Fault finding, diagnostics, and response to electrical breakdowns.
- Working on single-phase and three-phase electrical systems, including associated control systems.
- Working at height in accordance with approved safe systems of work.
- Management and coordination of electrical contractors on site.
- Adherence to Ricardo Health & Safety policies, procedures, and safe working practices.
The role covers responsibility for a wide range of site electrical and control systems, including:
- Electric gates and access systems.
- Transformers and substations.
- Backup generator and standby power systems.
- Control panels and associated control systems.
- Thermal imaging surveys and reporting.
- Intruder alarm power supplies and system interfaces.
- Fuel farm electrical inspections and compliance checks.
- Emergency lighting systems.
- Electrical Equipment Testing (EET).
- Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs).
- Electrical support to test operations.
- Electrical faults and issues arising from building infrastructure.
These responsibilities include safety-critical, compliance-driven, and operational systems and require regular inspection, testing, certification, and preventative maintenance, alongside reactive fault response.
Essential Requirements
- City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) qualified.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a maintenance electrician within an industrial environment.
- Proven experience in planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, and electrical repairs.
- Strong understanding of health & safety procedures and safe systems of work.
- Competent in using digital systems for reporting, documentation, and compliance records.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent) in Inspection and Testing.
- Experience with three-phase motors and control systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
- Experience within a Facilities Management or multi-disciplinary environment.
- IPAF (Cherry Picker), PASMA, and relevant safety training (manual handling, working at height, asbestos awareness).
