Ricardo are looking for a skilled Mechanical Analyst to join our Analysis Department and support a portfolio of ongoing client projects across multiple design and development programmes. The role will be primarily performing analysis of transmissions components and systems but will also cover other applications including a range of powertrain types, from conventional combustion engine through to hybrid and electric powertrains. The projects will span many vehicle types and market sectors including the aerospace and defence areas, energy sector and industrial applications. In this role, you’ll deliver insight that directly shapes our clients’ product development, providing clear understanding of how complex components and technologies interact.

Key Tasks

  • Analysis to support the design process including gear layout concepting, gear durability, bearing specification and shaft durability.
  • Working closely with a design and development team to assess functionality and performance of the developed systems; discuss and agree on requirements and targets.
  • Interpretation of analysis results and suggestions for improvements.
  • Preparation of / knowledge of gear drawing details including specification of gear micro geometry.
  • Non-standard analysis tasks to help direct design recommendations or support problem resolutions.
  • Development of analysis methodologies in the above mentioned areas.
  • Preparation of detailed technical presentations for both internal and client project engineering review.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate mechanical / automotive / aerospace engineers with experience of mechanical analysis.
  • Minimum degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline (e.g. electrical and electronic engineering / mechanical engineering / physics / computer science / software engineering / maths / control engineering).
  • Excellent theoretical and analytical skills relating to dynamics and kinematics of mechanisms. Application experience in analysis of transmission or reciprocating and rotating components using hand calculations, multi-body dynamics or FEA tools is beneficial.
  • Experience of mechanical software REALIS SABR (or transferrable knowledge from use of Romax or Masta).
  • Good knowledge of transmission technology.
  • Able to work independently, setting task priorities to deliver the required project deliverables on time.
  • Strong teamwork, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate and make presentations with a high degree of clarity, having the ability to write and deliver technical presentations to both internal project teams and clients, at gateway and management reviews.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and attention to detail.
