The Role
We are looking for a confident and competent person with a strong background in test, mechanical fitting and vehicle systems. Working closely with the other members of the team, your role will be to plan, install, commission and deliver test and development programs within the STC Test and Facility Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Fit transmissions, adaptors and driveline components to test rigs or engines on dyno test cells
- Liaise with technicians, engineers and managers working on test programs
- Conduct engine testing on engine dyno and or chassis dyno
- Basic engine test data analysis and fault diagnostics
Key Competencies and Experience
- Strong mechanical fitting skills with hands-on experience in rotating machinery such as test rigs, transmissions, axles, and engines.
- Proven ability to build, strip, and assemble transmissions, engines, or other complex mechanical systems.
- Basic understanding of test data, with the ability to interpret results and communicate findings effectively to engineers.
- Competent in using workshop equipment (e.g. lathe, milling machine, pillar drill, welder) with sound metalworking skills.
- Flexible and proactive approach, able to undertake unfamiliar tasks with minimal supervision.
- Thorough understanding of and adherence to strict health and safety standards.
- Experience in engine testing on dynamometers and familiarity with engine test equipment and software (e.g. STARS, MEXA, Indi, INCA).
- Knowledge of engine development, validation, and test (DVT) procedures.
- Strong team player with the ability to integrate and collaborate effectively within small technical teams.
- Willingness to work off-site for short periods, including at other Ricardo or customer locations in the UK and overseas.
Desirable Competencies and Experience
- Experience of instrumentation and logging systems.
- Experience of test rig controls systems – N.I./DSG/STARS.
- Experience of test bed calibration processes.
