A highly regarded Pupil Referral Unit in Lewisham is seeking a committed and adaptable Learning Support Assistant to join their team on a temp-to-perm basis. With just 7 pupils per class, subject-specific teaching and an excellent reputation for leadership and pupil outcomes, this is a fantastic opportunity for an LSA who wants to work in a genuinely supportive and structured environment.
The Role
- Support pupils across a range of subject-specific lessons
- Provide one-to-one and small-group learning support
- Help pupils remain focused, engaged and ready to learn
- Support pupils with SEMH, behavioural and additional learning needs
- Build positive relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
- Assist teachers with differentiated activities and classroom resources
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and confidence
- Encourage independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning
- Contribute to individual pupil support and progress
- Work closely with teaching, pastoral and SEN teams
About You
- Experienced working with children or young people
- Academically confident and able to support across multiple subjects
- Patient, calm and consistent
- Confident managing challenging behaviour
- Able to build positive relationships with pupils who may have disengaged from mainstream education
- Resilient and adaptable
- Passionate about helping young people achieve their potential
- Previous experience within a PRU, AP, SEMH setting or secondary school would be advantageous, although strong candidates from youth work, mentoring or other relevant backgrounds will also be considered.
