Elmbridge Borough Council is seeking a Green Spaces Ranger to join its Green Spaces Team and help maintain and improve parks, open spaces, and community environments across the borough. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or environmental services who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in maintaining high-quality public spaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out minor maintenance and improvement works across parks and green spaces.
  • Install, repair, and maintain benches, bins, signs, bollards, fencing, and other site furniture.
  • Undertake vegetation management, weed control, planting, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Empty litter bins and maintain site cleanliness.
  • Remove graffiti, fly-posters, and other environmental nuisances.
  • Clean and maintain play equipment and recreational facilities.
  • Operate power tools and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Conduct routine inspections and report defects, hazards, and maintenance requirements.
  • Support the delivery of projects that enhance the appearance and usability of green spaces.
  • Maintain accurate records of works completed, materials used, and equipment requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK Driving Licence (Category B).
  • Pesticide Application Qualification.
  • Experience carrying out grounds maintenance, landscaping, or environmental maintenance works.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of service and health and safety compliance.

Desirable

  • Experience using power tools and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Horticultural, landscaping, or environmental qualifications.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including COSHH.
  • Experience undertaking minor repairs, construction, or installation works.
