SEMH Teaching Assistant – Hackney | Behaviour | SENDo you have a calm, patient approach and the ability to build trust with young people who may struggle in a traditional classroom?
A specialist setting in Hackney is looking for a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils who need additional help with their behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement with learning.
This could be a great opportunity for an experienced SEN TA, but we're also interested in hearing from graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, support workers and anyone with relevant experience working with young people.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Build positive relationships with pupils who may have difficult experiences of education
- Support students to regulate emotions and manage behaviour
- Help pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning
- Use calm, consistent approaches when behaviour becomes challenging
- Encourage confidence, resilience and independence
- Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider SEN team
- Help create a safe, structured and positive environment
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Patient, resilient and emotionally intelligent
- Confident building relationships with young people
- Calm when dealing with challenging behaviour
- Consistent and able to maintain clear boundaries
- Positive and non-judgemental
- Genuinely interested in helping young people make progress
Previous SEMH/SEN experience is desirable, but not essential. Your personality, approach and ability to connect with young people are just as important. xgikmsk
