Are you a graduate looking to make a real difference to young people who need a fresh start in education?
A specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) is seeking a confident, resilient and motivated Behaviour Mentor to support students who may have experienced exclusion, struggled in mainstream education or face social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates interested in psychology, criminology, teaching, youth work or education to gain hands-on experience supporting young people in a specialist school environment.
You'll work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to build positive relationships, support behaviour and help students re-engage with learning. The role is varied and rewarding, giving you practical experience in mentoring, behaviour management and supporting vulnerable young people.
No teaching qualification or previous school experience is essential. We're looking for the right personality, resilience and ability to connect with young people.

- Support pupils in lessons, helping them engage with learning and remain focused.
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to develop confidence, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Use calm communication, encouragement and consistent boundaries to manage challenging situations.
- Help students develop social skills, resilience and a more positive approach to education.
- Support teachers during lessons, transitions and unstructured times.
- Work alongside pastoral staff to maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
- Encourage students to recognise their potential and make positive choices.

- Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, Education or related subjects.
- Aspiring teachers looking to gain school experience before teacher training.
- Sports coaches, youth workers and mentors.
- Candidates with experience in residential care, community support or working with vulnerable young people.
- Individuals looking to start a career in education or behaviour support.
You'll need to be:
- Resilient and confident, able to remain calm when behaviour becomes challenging.
- Relationship-driven, able to build trust while maintaining clear boundaries.
- Patient and proactive, with the ability to motivate disengaged students.
- Reliable and punctual, with a professional approach to work.
- Committed to helping young people succeed, even when progress takes time.
Why Apply? Working in a PRU gives you valuable experience supporting young people who need a different approach to education.
You'll develop practical skills in behaviour management, SEMH support, mentoring and safeguarding while making a genuine difference to students' confidence, engagement and future opportunities.
Whether you're a graduate exploring your career options, an aspiring teacher or someone with experience supporting young people, this could be an excellent next step.
