Music Teaching Assistant / Technician | SEMH | Rap, Hip-Hop & Music Production

The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.
Are you passionate about music, rap, hip-hop or music production and interested in using your skills to support young people?

A specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school is looking for a creative, reliable and resilient Music Teaching Assistant / Technician to support students with additional needs and help them engage with education.
This role would suit someone with a genuine interest in music, whether you're a rapper, beatmaker, aspiring producer, DJ or simply someone with practical musical skills and a passion for working with young people.
You'll support students in lessons and across the school day, helping them manage behaviour, build positive relationships and engage with learning. You'll also bring your musical interests into the classroom, supporting creative activities and helping students explore music as a positive outlet.
You don't need to be a qualified teacher or have previous school experience. Your personality, reliability and ability to connect with young people are just as important as your musical background.

The Role – Music & Classroom Support

  • Support teachers in lessons and across the school day, helping students engage with learning.
  • Use your interest in music, rap, hip-hop and production to encourage participation and build rapport.
  • Assist with music-based activities, equipment, basic recording and creative projects where appropriate.
  • Support students who may experience challenging behaviour, emotional difficulties or disengagement from education.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, communication, confidence and teamwork.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
  • Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff, following behaviour policies and safeguarding procedures.

Who We're Looking ForYou could be a rapper, music producer, beatmaker, DJ, music technology enthusiast, graduate or someone with experience in mentoring, youth work or supporting young people.
You don't need to be an experienced Teaching Assistant, but you must be:

  • Creative: Able to bring enthusiasm and musical interests into the school environment.
  • Relationship-driven: Comfortable building trust with young people while maintaining boundaries.
  • Resilient: Calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour.
  • Reliable: Good time-keeping and attendance are essential.
  • Professional: Willing to learn, follow school procedures and take safeguarding seriously.

Why Consider This Role?
This is an opportunity to combine your interest in music with a practical role supporting young people who may have struggled in mainstream education.
You'll gain experience in a specialist SEMH setting while helping students develop confidence, engage with learning and discover positive ways to express themselves.
Previous school experience and a teaching qualification are not essential. A genuine interest in music, a positive attitude and the willingness to support young people are what matter.
Interested? If you're passionate about music and want to put your skills to good use in a school environment, we'd love to hear from you.
A great opportunity for aspiring artists, producers and creative individuals looking to get into education and youth support.
