PMLD Teacher | Specialist SEN School | Lambeth | Full-Time

Before applying for this role, please read the following information about this opportunity found below.
Are you a passionate PMLD Teacher who believes every pupil deserves the opportunity to communicate, develop and achieve β€” regardless of the complexity of their needs?
A specialist SEN school in Lambeth is seeking a dedicated and nurturing teacher to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex additional needs.
This is an opportunity for a teacher who understands that progress isn't always measured through traditional academic outcomes. For some pupils, progress might mean developing a new way to communicate, responding to sensory experiences, building trust or achieving a small but meaningful step towards independence.
If you're patient, creative and passionate about specialist education, this could be an excellent opportunity to make a genuine difference.
The Role – As a PMLD Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver highly differentiated, individualised lessons tailored to pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs.
  • Support pupils with profound learning difficulties, communication needs and physical disabilities.
  • Develop pupils' communication, sensory awareness, engagement and independence.
  • Use sensory-based learning and personalised teaching approaches to encourage participation.
  • Support pupils who are non-verbal or use alternative and augmentative communication (AAC).
  • Work towards individual learning outcomes, EHCP targets and personalised development goals.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants, therapists and other specialist professionals.
  • Create a safe, calm and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Monitor progress and celebrate meaningful achievements, however small.
  • Work closely with families and colleagues to ensure consistent, pupil-centred support.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching pupils with PMLD, SLD or complex SEN is highly desirable.
  • An understanding of sensory learning, communication strategies and personalised education.
  • Experience supporting pupils with physical, medical or communication needs is advantageous.
  • A patient, empathetic and adaptable teaching approach.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and helping every pupil reach their potential.

Teachers with experience in special schools, complex needs settings, SLD provision or profound and multiple learning difficulties are encouraged to apply.
Why This Role?Working in PMLD education requires a different approach to teaching β€” one built around understanding each pupil, recognising their individual needs and finding creative ways to help them engage with the world around them.
You'll have the opportunity to work alongside specialist support staff and therapists in an environment where individual progress, communication and quality of life matter just as much as academic achievement.
Whether you're an experienced PMLD Teacher or a specialist SEN teacher looking to develop your expertise, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact.
