Ribbons & Reeves are working with a specialist SEN school in Brixton that is looking for a dedicated KS1 Teacher to join their team, working with pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
This is an excellent opportunity for a Primary Teacher with a passion for SEN who enjoys creating engaging, sensory-rich and highly personalised learning experiences for young pupils.
The Role
You will take responsibility for a KS1 class, planning and delivering learning that is carefully adapted to the individual needs, abilities and communication styles of each pupil.
Alongside the Early Years and KS1 curriculum, you'll support pupils to develop their:
- Communication and interaction
- Sensory awareness
- Physical and motor skills
- Independence and self-care
- Social and emotional development
- Early literacy and numeracy skills
The school takes a highly personalised approach, with learning often built around small, meaningful steps of progress.
You'll work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists and other professionals to ensure pupils receive consistent support throughout the school day.
The Pupils
The class will include pupils with PMLD and complex additional needs, which may include:
- Severe Learning Difficulties
- Complex communication needs
- Autism
- Physical disabilities
- Sensory needs
- Medical needs
The successful teacher will be comfortable working with pupils who communicate in different ways and will be able to adapt their teaching to ensure every pupil can participate and experience success.
We're Looking For
- QTS or equivalent teaching qualification
- Experience teaching KS1 / Primary
- SEN experience is highly desirable
- Experience with PMLD, SLD or complex needs would be advantageous
- A nurturing, patient and consistent approach
- Strong understanding of differentiation and personalised learning
- Creativity when developing sensory and practical learning activities
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs
Mainstream KS1 Teachers with a strong interest in developing their SEN experience are also encouraged to apply.
