A specialist SEND school is looking for a confident and committed BSL Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team and support pupils who are Deaf, hearing impaired or communicate using British Sign Language. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong BSL skills who wants to make a genuine difference to pupils' access to education, communication and wider school life.
The Role
- Supporting pupils across lessons, activities and social situations using BSL
- Facilitating communication between pupils, teachers and peers
- Providing targeted one-to-one and small-group support
- Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and communication skills
- Supporting classroom activities and adapting resources where required
- Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and families
- Promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment
About You
- Has confident BSL skills
- Has experience supporting children or young people, ideally within SEND, Deaf education or a specialist setting
- Is patient, approachable and an excellent communicator
- Understands the importance of accessible communication
- Can build strong relationships with pupils
- Is passionate about helping young people achieve their potential
Experience within a Deaf/SEND setting is highly desirable, although candidates with transferable experience and strong BSL skills will be considered.
